Croatia
From the historic streets of Split to the turquoise lakes of Plitvice and the rolling hills of Istria, this adventure reveals the best of Croatia’s coast and countryside. We’ll hike scenic trails above the Adriatic, explore Krka and Plitvice National Parks, and discover Croatian traditions with locals through food, wine, and culture. Highlights include a truffle hunt with a local family, a boat tour through the Zadar archipelago, a kayaking excursion in Rovinj, and time to wander charming old towns and seaside promenades. Blending active exploration with moments of relaxation, this tour captures Croatia’s natural beauty and vibrant spirit.
Optional Slovenia Extension
The Slovenia extension continues our journey north into the Julian Alps, where crystal-clear rivers, alpine meadows, and warm hospitality await. We’ll visit the magnificent Skocjan Caves, enjoy wine tasting in the Vipava Valley, visit the tranquil Lake Bohinj and hike through the stunning landscapes of Triglav National Park. From mountain trails and cheese tasting at a family-run dairy to peaceful dinners beside an alpine lake, this extension offers a blend of adventure, culture, and serenity — a perfect finale to our Adriatic experience.

Sarah (she/her) supports AdventurUs by making magic happen behind the scenes with our operations. When we are lucky she joins us as a trip leader and capturing special moments as one of our trip photographers. Having studied photo journalism in school, Sarah loves photographing our adventure retreats and international trips.
Sarah also spent 10 years in outdoor education, most of which were trips focused on getting girls and women outdoors. She is certified as a Wilderness First Responder.
We also have local guides on all our trips relying on their expert knowledge of the area. This not only ensures that you have an amazing experience getting to know the heart of our destination through them, but that we are supporting the local women-led adventure economy.
We’ll adventure by day, and sleep soundly at night. We’ll be staying at beautifully appointed 3 and 4 Star hotels throughout this trip. Rest assured, you’ll feel well rested every morning you wake up!

DAY 9: Early lunch at a Slovenian winery, afternoon visit to Skocjan Caves
From the drop-off point in Trieste, we will continue to Slovenia’s Istria region for lunch and wine tasting at a small winery. Our next stop is Skocjan Caves: an impressive site where an underground river has carved a deep subterranean canyon with vast chambers and bridges. The guided walk into this environment is dramatic and unforgettable. After cooling off in the caves, we'll head to Sezana to catch the last of the day’s sunshine and have dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 10: Vintgar Gorge
This morning we will make our way towards Slovenia’s mountain regions. Our first stop is Vintgar Gorge, a spectacular natural canyon carved by the emerald-green Radovna River. A wooden boardwalk follows the water for about a mile, leading us past crystal pools, small rapids, and moss-covered cliffs to the picturesque Šum waterfall at the end of the trail. Next, we’ll head to a small alpine dairy farm outside of Bohinj . We’ll have the chance to meet Lucija, a local woman farmer who makes artisan cheese in the Slovenian countryside. We’ll get to taste a selection oftraditional meats and cheeses before heading to Lake Bohinj, our base for the next two nights. We will check in to the hotel and afterwards gather for dinner in a local restaurant.

DAY 11: Hiking Visevnik or Optional Rest Day
After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll drive towards the starting point for our hike in Triglav National Park (45-minute drive). We have a challenging route to the summit of Visevnik that will reward our efforts with gorgeous panoramic views. We’ll start hiking through larch forests and grassy slopes on the Pokljuka Plateau, but the trail gets steep as we ascend up ski slopes, through the forest, and up rocky terrain. There may be sections where you are required to use your hand for balance. Along the way, we’ll enjoy stunning views of the Julian Alps and Mt. Triglav, the park’s namesake and Slovenia’s highest peak. We’ll have a picnic lunch once we reach the rocky summit, located 2050 meters or 6,726 feet above sea level, before returning down the way we came. The hike should take us around 7 hours (5.3 miles, 2,522 ft elevation gain). If we’re lucky, we may spot some wild chamois or Alpine ibex from the trail. We’ll return to Bohinj in the afternoon and have the rest of the afternoon and evening free.
Anyone who does not wish to do the Visevnik hike can stay and enjoy Bohinj for the day. There is plenty to do in the area -relax at the hotel, get a massage, walk around the lake, take an easy walk through Mostnica Gorge and Voja pasture,or paddle the lake’s calm waters in a canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard. Your guide can provide you with more information and suggestions.

DAY 12: Savica waterfall hike, cable car to Vogel & hike in the Julian Alps, continue to Ljubljana
In the morning, we’ll take a short drive to the trailhead for Savica Waterfall, one of Slovenia’s famous natural landmarks. The trail begins near Lake Bohinj and follows a scenic forest path and stone stairway to a viewing platform overlooking the impressive 256-foot cascading waterfall. The waterfall is the source of the Sava Bohinjka River and holds a special place in Slovenian culture.
After the waterfall, we’ll drive to the Vogel cable car station, located on the southern shore of Lake Bohinj. The cable car ride takes only a few minutes but climbs steeply to 5,036 feet, delivering breathtaking views over theJulian Alps and Lake Bohinj. Even on cloudy days, the views are spectacular. At the upper station, if the weather allows, we'll have a chance to stretch our legs a little by taking a walk to Orlove Glave for more views of Triglav National Park, followed by a mountain lunch.
The cable car will take us back down to the shores of Lake Bohinj. From there, we'll drive to Slovenia's charming capital - Ljubljana. After we check in to the hotel, we will gather for a late afternoon walk through the city center and our final dinner together.

DAY 13: Departure Day from Ljubljana
After breakfast, those with flights departing from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) will be dropped off at the airport during our group transfer (time to be confirmed once flight details are available). For everyone else, we will say goodbye until the next adventure.
